*** ATTENTION BOATERS - Please Prevent Mussels From Invading Our Lakes ***
To prevent the destructive Quagga and Zebra mussels from potentially shutting down the water delivery system, EBRPD is asking all boaters to prevent the spread of mussels into East Bay reservoirs and lakes.

If you are launching your own boat at Lake Chabot, Del Valle, Quarry Lakes, or Contra Loma, be prepared for a mandatory boat inspection.

Wet boats, motors or gear will be denied launching.

The California Fish and Game (DF&G) has halted hatchery rainbow trout plants in nearly 200 popular California lakes and streams statewide due to a lawsuit. None of the East Bay Regional Park District sport fishing lakes are affected by this ruling. Planting of catchable rainbow trout will continue at Del Valle, Shadow Cliffs, Lake Chabot, Quarry Lakes, Contra Loma, Lake Temescal and Don Castro by both the East Bay Regional Park District through  its contract with Mt. Lassen Trout Farms and by the California Dept. of Fish and Game. Due to the fact that many California lakes and streams will not be planted with rainbow trout by DF&G in the foreseeable future, EBRPD lakes will be receiving additional plants of trout by DF&G.

General Activity

Del Valle (Livermore)

Marina hours are 7 AM to 5 PM.  Boat rentals are ½ off on Wednesdays.  Trout fishing has been great with many anglers bringing in limits, with some in the four to five pound range! Nightcrawlers, Power Eggs, Kastmasters and Rapalas have all been working well. Fishing from the bank at the south end near the launch has been popular.

Horseshoe Lake (Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area, Union City/Fremont)

Park Hours are 7am – 6 pm.  Limits are coming out, but the trout are on the smaller side.  An angler said that out of the eight days he has fished in the last two weeks, he has caught limits on seven of the days. On 12/10, Tony Webb of Fremont caught an 8 lb., 4 oz. catfish, as well as a catfish weighing just over four pounds and a third weighing just over five pounds.  He was fishing from the peninsula and was using nightcrawlers. Also on 12/10, Gilbert Wills of Hayward caught his limit of trout using chartreuse Power Bait.  He was fishing from the disabled-accessible fishing pier. On 12/11, four year old Connor Day of Livermore and his grandpa Gene Day of Fremont each caught their limit of trout using green Power Bait.  They were fishing along Fishermen's Row. On 12/12, Bob Williamson of Fremont caught his limit of trout for a total combined weight of 8 lbs., 7 ozs. on green eggs with a white worm.  He was fishing past the deer fence on the right side of Horseshoe Lake. On 12/14, Rico Gonzalez of Union City was back again and he caught another whopper!  This time he caught a ten-pound catfish.  He was using a chicken liver and was fishing from the disabled-accessible fishing pier. On 12/20, Fred Martinez of Newark reported catching his limit of catfish, four of which were on ham and one using his previous "usual" bait of shrimp. Many anglers are reporting catching trout with the Lernaea parasite on them.  As long as the affected areas are cut out and the fish is well cooked, they are okay to eat.

Lake Temescal (Oakland)

Fishing for trout on Power Bait has been the most successful from the handicap dock between storms.

Contra Loma (Antioch)

Park Hours– 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.  The lake is down about 6-7 feet and all fishing docks are closed until further notice.  Larger boats may be unable to launch.  The boat launch is still open and fishing from the shore is available.  Trout are biting on nightcrawlers or a variety of Power Baits almost anywhere around the lake.  Catfish have been biting well with nightcrawlers, anchovies or chicken liver at Channel Point or the Boat Ramp Area.  Black bass are biting on nightcrawlers or using lures along the shore from Channel point, Loma Island to the Boat Ramp Area.  Crappie are biting with jigs or worms along the shore around Loma Island and the Boat Ramp Area.  Matilde Quiroga from Antioch caught a 1.7 lb. Blue gill. Bernard Henderson from Antioch caught 1.15 & 1.08 lb. Crappie.

Lake Chabot (Castro Valley)

HOURS: The Cafe and Marina are open from 7 AM to 4:30 PM. Water level is around 6.5 below full. Water clarity remains good in deeper parts of the lake. Some of the shallow areas are a little muddy due to the rain. If you catch a whopper bring it into the marina and get a free whopper hat. Trout fishing has been good from both the shore and trolling. The average size trout pulled out were in the 2 lb. range.  The best way to fish for trout right now is using a sliding sinker set up and using Power Bait or Power Eggs.  The current hotspot for trolling is the Dam going towards Bass Cove using a J-7 Firetiger. The hotspot for bait fishing is the burner on the west shore trail and Indian cove on the east shore trail. Vanessa Mendiola of Castro Valley landed a 4.85 lb. trout trolling a Rapala Firetiger by the island. Bass and catfish fishing have been slow.
