Regional Police Press Release – Drowning at Don Castro

On Sunday, May 18, 2008, approximately 4:08 p.m., East Bay Regional Park District Police Dispatch was notified of a possible drowning at Don Castro Regional Recreation Area in Hayward. A swimmer noticed an object on the bottom of the swim lagoon and notified lifeguards, who rescued the victim, a 6-year-old male from Berkeley. The victim was located in approximately 4 ½ feet of water. Lifeguards began lifesaving efforts, including CPR, which were continued by firefighters and paramedics who responded to the scene. The victim was transported by ambulance to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, where he later died.

The incident is being investigated by the East Bay Regional Park District Police Department. Anyone who was at Don Castro Park or who has information regarding this incident is asked to contact Sergeant Tyrone Davis at (510) 690-6554 or (510) 881-1833.
