The Alameda County and Contra Costa County Fire Chiefs and the East Bay Regional Park District, in cooperation with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL Fire), have declared the 2008 wildland fire season to be officially over effective Monday, November 10 at 8 am.
During the 2008 fire season, dry and windy conditions brought Red Flag Warnings to Contra Costa and Alameda counties resulting in restrictions and some park closures. There were no significant fires in the area during Red Flag days thanks in part to cooperation of area homeowners following firesafe guidelines set forth by the Park District and local fire departments. With 2008 fire season officially ended, now is a good time to service home heating systems, check smoke detector batteries, and continuing firewise vegetation management around homes and buildings.
