The East Bay Regional Park District will soon have a new member on its board of directors. He is Whitney Dotson of Richmond, who won election to the seat on Nov. 4. Dotson will replace Nancy Skinner of Berkeley, who was elected to the State Assembly. He will be sworn into office at the board meeting on Jan. 13, 2009.

Dotson has a master’s degree in public health from U.C. Berkeley. Long active in environmental organizations, he is a member of the park district’s Park Advisory Committee and a board member of Citizens for the Eastshore State Park.

Dotson will represent the park district’s Ward 1, which comprises Richmond, San Pablo, Albany, El Cerrito, El Sobrante, Kensington, Berkeley, Emeryville and parts of Oakland and Pinole.

Parks in Ward 1 include Pt. Pinole, Miller-Knox, Pt. Isabel, Brooks Island, Sobrante Ridge, Kennedy Grove, Wildcat Canyon and Tilden.
