Park Activities
Seven group picnic areas (non-reservable) are nestled among newly planted berms along the multipurpose trails. These interior trails lead to a view site topped by Roger Berry's sculpture titled "Rising Wave." The perimeter trail affords sweeping Bay vistas. The first mile of this trail is paved, while the second mile is not. Water and toilet facilities are available only near the entrance.
Current development at the Park
Oyster Bay Regional Shoreline is a former landfill, closed in the early 1980s, that is undergoing conversion into a parkland. To complete the conversion, the Park District is hauling in soil to support trees and turf, placing it and grading it for proper runoff. The fill has been tested for hazardous materials and has been approved for placement. This activity has been ongoing and will continue through the summer, and may result in temporary trail closures. It is part of a development plan that includes creation of an entrance at Davis Street that will allow automobile access and parking within the park (download Phase 2 diagram). The beginnings of this new park access road can be seen near the existing service yard. Development of the park will continue for several years.
